The ‘Importance of Women’ (IOW) series is a networking speaker event for our Women 4 STEM members and their guests, where we ask inspiring women and men in STEM fields, to share their experiences about the job they do now, how they got to where they are, the challenges they faced, the pitfalls they experienced along the way and the successes celebrated.
The series is designed to give our members and guests the opportunity to:
- Gain an understanding of what is possible
- Get ideas on how to progress their career
- Consider different career opportunities and alternatives
- Hear real life experiences on how to deal with some of the challenges that face women in the workforce
- Gain different and/or new perspectives on the STEM Industries
- Meet people and expand their network

Join the Importance of Women team on June 19th to discuss the following;
All about superannuation – myths, misconceptions, things to think about…and do!
It is an interactive session which will test attendees knowledge about superannuation, bust some myths, give some tips of things to be aware of in relation to superannuation, and encourage attendees to take action to ensure their superannuation is working as well as it should for them.
ABOUT SPEAKER
Jocelyn Furlan
Jocelyn Furlan is an experienced non-executive director and Chair.
She is a director on the Boards of Perpetual Superannuation Limited and Financial Counselling Australia. She is the Independent Chairperson of the Customer Owned Banking Code Compliance Committee.
Jocelyn is the Chair of the Board of Strathcona Girls Grammar School and a non-executive director of the Mother’s Day Classic Foundation.
She was formerly on the Board of Aware Super and a member of Vanguard Investments Ltd’s external compliance committee.
She was the Chairperson and CEO of the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal from 2007 to 2015 and was also the inaugural company secretary of VicSuper. In addition to her non-executive work, Jocelyn provides consulting services as a principal of FM Super Resolutions in superannuation dispute resolution and financial services remediation. Jocelyn’s background is a financial services lawyer with in excess of 25 years’ experience in superannuation. She holds law and commerce degrees and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
